Assistive Devices for the Differently Abled

On 24th Feb 2016, Mr. Kalyan  Mohan and Mr. Jaythirtha from Cognizant Bangalore office had an opportunity to view the activities carried out by Mobility India and they also  inaugurated  newly installed equipment .

CF supported MI towards procuring various equipment , which would enable them  to reach more number of people and also broaden their base to take up additional service lines.  The installation of these equipment is much to the benefit of needy people with disabilities, who are in need of Assistive Devices which would enable them to access education, livelihood opportunity and be included in the mainstream society and will make a great difference in their lives.

Mobility India( MI) Rehabilitation Research and Training Center in Bangalore set up in 2002 is a model for disability friendliness. In 2014, the National Award for  ‘ Outstanding Work in the Creation of  Barrier Free Environment for Persons with Disabilities’ by the Ministry of Social Justice And Empowerment Department of Disability Affairs , Government of India was awarded to Mobility India. MI has perfected a blend of disability and non-disability at all levels – its team of 150 members includes 41 persons with disabilities.

MI has been progressive in making a change in the disability, development and rehabilitation sector and strives for the inclusion of people with disability in all development activities, especially those who are poor and disadvantaged. MI’s rehabilitation services, which is tailored to suit individual life styles, includes provision of a wide range of affordable and appropriate prosthetic & orthotic devices, wheelchairs and other mobility devices, along with physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

Now the  number of Orthotic & Prosthetic devices fabricated by MI will increase by 50% – to 2000 nos.  and 120 nos. respectively, benefiting more than 1300 families annually.
