Chairman and Managing Director, India
2019 was a watershed year for Cognizant Foundation in many ways - redefining the strategic long-term roadmap, identifying crying areas of attention where we can maximise impact, transitioning from a project to programme mode, bringing about a deeper metrics and measurement culture, and working with pan-Indian partners to reach the under-served communities across the country. This was possible because of two key events—the full-year guidance from a strengthened Board with leaders who shaped healthcare, education and public opinion in the country, and higher quarterly grants from Cognizant. Two areas of accentuated focus that gave me immense satisfaction were (i) Expanding educational scholarships to the differently-abled and opportunity-deprived sections of society as well as to the teachers who focused on these communities, and (ii) Focus on technology-based interventions to make larger-scale impact. With a rich demographic dividend, India today needs more and more corporate houses that do well by doing good. I am happy that Cognizant is a shining example of a purposeful organisation in what it does through Cognizant Foundation and Cognizant Outreach, among others.I would like to take this opportunity to thank Madhavan Satagopan for incubating, nurturing and shaping Cognizant Foundation to what it is today. With his passion for driving massive social change, ability to network with and influence disparate stakeholders, and the knack for thinking big and long-term, he left an indelible imprint on the minds of everyone he worked with both within the Foundation and outside. I wish him the best of health and happiness in the years to come.
