“The 3-month-old infant of Gomathi*and Sudhir*has now been discharged successfully.”
“Kundavi* is a 3-month-old infant who was born to Gomathi* and Sudhir* – an electrician by profession. Kundavi* was suffering from Metabolic Acidosis and was put on IV on admission to the hospital. The doctors at Government Stanley Medical College, Chennai were in a bind as things started going downhill from there, much to the dismay of her parents.
During the course of the treatment Kundavi* developed respiratory distress and had to be placed on High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) device, averting the need for mechanical ventilation. She was then treated with bicarbonate using syringe pumps which minutely titrate and administer the various doses without manual intervention. The baby’s vitals were continuously monitored using multipara monitors. Thanks to the timely treatment, Kundavi’s* condition improved symptomatically and she was discharged successfully, to her parents’ relief and delight. A special thanks goes to the commitment of doctors and the medical team at the Stanley Hospital and the high-end medical equipment donated by Cognizant Foundation in partnership with Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME) Trust, Chennai. The usage of equipment which would have cost a few tens of thousands of rupees was utilised free of cost.”
