Handheld device with audio curriculum for visually challenged students

Cognizant Foundation partnered with Rotary Club of Pune Shivajinagar (RCPS) to support Poona Blind School for Girls, Kothrud, Pune and Poona Blind School for Boys, Koreagaon park, Pune, for the purchase of 110 units of Sunetra device for the students in the higher classes in these two schools.

Sunetra is a device for visually challenged students loaded with Maharashtra State Board curriculum in Audio format. It includes a digital pocket daisy reader, e-book reader, music player, radio cum voice recorder – all in one. The unit is sturdy, has low maintenance cost and is also very easy for students to handle due to special alignment of keys. The sound quality is very clear and the headphones aid in individual study. The Sunetra devices help the students in preparing for the course content and also in their extra-curricular pursuits.

Rotary Club of Pune Shivajinagar (RCPS), formed in 1984, works in the area of Education and Healthcare. In education RCPS supports schools with infrastructure and in healthcare they run campaigns such as vaccination, blood donation etc. RCPS has been working with several schools catering to visually challenged students and has supported various activities in the schools. RCPS has been engaged in supporting the visually challenged students in these two schools over the last 7-8 years.
