Cognizant Foundation Rebuilding Communities Program

Cognizant Foundation’s Rebuilding Communities Program (RCP) was launched to rehabilitate communities affected by the December 2015 floods in Chennai and surrounding areas. This program is designed to create and build self-reliant communities to bring about integrated and sustainable development of the entire community.

Under RCP, CF has taken up two rehabilitation projects. One of which is rehabilitation of communities comprising of nine panchayats of St. Thomas Mount Block, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The average number of families in these gram panchayats is 5000. The implementing partner identified to execute the project on the ground is Development of Humane Action (DHAN) Foundation.

On September 22, 2016, Dr. S. Ramamurthy, Director, Cognizant Foundation formally launched the project with DHAN Foundation in the Government Primary School, Kovilambakkam, Chennai. As part of the inauguration function, the CF Rebuilding Communities program highlights and initiatives (Women Empowerment and Micro Credit, Education, Healthcare etc.) were shared with the community members. The first few Self Help Groups (SHGs) formed under RCP were initiated at the inaugural function.

DHAN Foundation, headquartered in Madurai, Tamil Nadu is a grassroots professional development organization, which has more than two decades of engagement in the process of poverty reduction, women empowerment through its community banking program that focuses on Self Help Groups.
