



On July 22, 2015, Lakshmi Narayanan, Vice Chairman, Cognizant, and Director, Cognizant Foundation, formally presented a Critical Care Ambulance, Bio-version haemodialysis machine and Flash Autoclave Sterilizer to the Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata (I-NK) , in the presence of Dr R. P. Sengupta, Chairman and Managing Director, I-NK, Dr Hrishikesh Kumar, Vice Chairman and Head of Neurology Department, IN-K.
Set up in 2009 by eminent neurosurgeon Dr R. P. Sengupta, I-NK is a 150-bed, not-for-profit hospital that treats adults and children for neurological diseases, and offers clinical care in Neuromedicine, Neurosurgery, Neuropsychiatry, Neuroradiology including Interventional Neurology and Neurorehabilitation. The hospital also has state-of-art Department of Pathology and special clinics to treat conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders and Parkinson’s disease.
The mid-size critical care ambulance funded by Cognizant Foundation is fitted with critical care equipment enable I-NK to safely transport an additional 50 critically ill neurological patients to the hospital every month.
The flash autoclave sterilizer will enable I-NK to improve patient safety and optimize the activities of its operation theatres by quickly sterilizing a wide range of critical instruments during emergency surgeries.
The advanced haemodialysis machine will help I-NK provide life-saving Haemodialysis to critical neurology patients who are at a high risk of developing acute renal failure. More importantly, it will help I-NK perform Plasmapheresis to treat patients suffering from life-threatening neurological diseases like Guillain–Barré syndrome in which the body’s immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system and at a much lesser cost.
