State-of-the-art ophthalmic equipment for eye care institution in West Bengal

Cognizant Foundation has provided state-of-the-art ophthalmic equipment for Sunderban Eye Hospital, Sultanpur, West Bengal. This project is in partnership with the Sunderban Social Development Center (SSDC).  The objective of this project is to prevent avoidable blindness among adults residing in remote rural areas. This project has increased the capacity of the eye hospital to cater to increased demand for quality eye-health services in the area. Through this support, over 2000 patients benefit each year.

Sunderban Social Development Center (SSDC) is a not-for-profit organization. It is in Krishnanagar District of Sunderban Delta Region of West Bengal. Since 1986, SSDC has been serving the people living in disaster-prone Sunderban island areas and South 24 Parganas, identified as one of the most backward and remote regions of India. Sunderban Eye Hospital is a full-fledged ophthalmic institution run under the aegis of SSDC.

CF has adopted “Preventing Avoidable Blindness” as one of its focus areas in Healthcare. Under this focus area, CF supports various programmes to prevent blindness among children and adults. This project in SSDC is part of Cognizant Foundation’s programme to provide state-of-the-art ophthalmic equipment for eye care institutions.
