Cognizant Foundation Rebuilding Communities Program

Cognizant Foundation’s Rebuilding Communities Program (RCP) was launched to rehabilitate communities affected by the December 2015 floods in Chennai and surrounding areas. This program is designed to create and build self-reliant communities to bring about integrated and sustainable development of the entire community.

Under RCP, CF has taken up two rehabilitation projects. One of which is rehabilitation of communities comprising of six panchayats of Kanchipuram and Villupuram Districts of Tamil Nadu. In each gram panchayat, the number of households to be covered under the RCP program is 400 – 800 with a population of 1600 – 3200 people. The implementing partner identified to execute the project on the ground is Hand in Hand India.

On August 10, 2016, Dr. S. Ramamurthy, Director, Cognizant Foundation formally launched the project with Hand in Hand India in the Chitharkadu village in Kanchipuram. Memorandum of Understanding on the RCP was exchanged with the presidents of the six panchayats covered under the program.

As part of the inauguration function, kiosks were set up on the various initiatives that will be covered under RCP. This was to introduce and create awareness among the villagers about the program initiatives – viz. Women Empowerment and Micro Credit, Education, Healthcare, Environment, Skilling – alternate livelihood options, Sanitation and Water Conversation etc.

Hand in Hand India is a public charitable trust that works to alleviate poverty through a unique integrated community development approach. Hand in Hand India renders services in five key areas, viz., Child Labor Elimination and Education, Self Help Groups and Women Empowerment, Skill Development and Technology Center, Health and Environment.
