Capacity building for access to quality health – Blood Bank & Stem Cell Research

Blood Banks collect and screen blood for infectious diseases, and store blood, ensuring that blood is available when patients need it for transfusions or other medical procedures. Blood Banks carefully screen all donated blood for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, Zika, and other viruses and infectious agents. Ensuring that safe blood and tissue products are available when they are needed is important to the health and wellbeing of patients. Blood banking has also allowed for the development of many surgeries common today, which would have been impossible without it. In addition to acute illness, millions of people and children who suffer from blood disorders benefit from frequent blood transfusion or blood-derived products.

Cognizant Foundation has been supporting critical equipment to not-for-profit community blood banks that make blood and blood components available free-of-cost or at highly subsidised rates to patients from underserved sections of society.

The Foundation has also been supporting organisations that enable quick and affordable access to matching stem cells for Indians with blood cancers and Thalassemia.

The organisations supported by the Foundation are listed below:

  • Association for Health Welfare in the Nilgiris (ASHWINI), Gudalur, Tamil Nadu
